Privacy Policy

PlateIQ ("we", "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains what data the PlateIQ iOS app collects and how it is used.

1. Data we collect

Meal photos — when you take a photo to log a meal, the image is sent over HTTPS to our analysis backend and forwarded to Anthropic's Claude API for food identification. Photos are not stored on our servers after the response is returned. Photos are not associated with your name or contact information.
Detected food names — the model's text output (e.g., "grilled chicken breast, 170g") is queried against the public USDA FoodData Central database for nutrition lookup. Only the food name string is sent to USDA; no photo or personal data.
Meal history — the foods you log, weights, and calculated macros are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData. None of this leaves the device unless you choose to write it to Apple Health.
Onboarding answers — weight, height, age, gender (used to compute your daily targets) are stored in iOS UserDefaults on-device only.
Subscription status — managed by RevenueCat, which receives your anonymized Apple identifier for subscription receipt validation. We do not receive your Apple ID, email, or payment details.

2. Apple Health

If you grant HealthKit permission, PlateIQ writes meal nutrition (calories, protein, carbs, fat, fiber) to Apple Health. PlateIQ does not read data from Apple Health. HealthKit data stays in Apple's encrypted Health database; we never receive it.

3. Analytics

PlateIQ does not include third-party analytics SDKs, advertising trackers, or telemetry beyond what RevenueCat needs for subscription validation.

4. Children

PlateIQ is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.

5. Your choices

Delete the app to remove all locally stored meal history and onboarding answers.
Revoke HealthKit access in iOS Settings → Privacy → Health → PlateIQ.
Cancel your subscription in iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
